Professor HU Zehong of our Center has recently published a new monograph, Studies on Logical Theories of Truth. This book is one of the major outcomes of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) Major Project “Historical Origins, Theoretical Frontiers, and Applications of Logical Theories of Truth”, for which Professor HU served as Chief Expert. Professor HSIUNG Ming and Associate Professor GAO Beibei, both members of the project team from our Center, also contributed by authoring relevant chapters.

This volume offers a historical survey and theoretical investigation of logical theories of truth. Guided by the principle of unifying historical inquiry with logical analysis, the book seeks to provide a relatively comprehensive and systematic account of the historical origins of logical theories of truth through an examination of the development of traditional theories of truth and deflationary theories of truth. Through in-depth studies of formal theories of truth—such as semantic theories of truth and axiomatic theories of truth—the book explores major frontier issues in contemporary research on logical theories of truth. It also attempts to identify the applied value of research in logical theories of truth through innovative studies of truth-theoretic paradoxes.

Chapters 1 through 5 follow a research trajectory from traditional theories of truth, through deflationary theories of truth, semantic theories of truth, truth-theoretic paradoxes, to axiomatic theories of truth, examining each in turn. In view of the implicit or explicit monadic truth-theoretic assumptions underlying these approaches, Chapter 6 introduces and discusses pluralist theories of truth.

This book is intended for researchers and enthusiasts in philosophy and logic, and may also be used as a reference text for graduate and undergraduate students in related disciplines.
